The Practice

A baseline is where you start.

It is what's true before assumptions, projections, or spin. Good decisions begin there.

One practitioner.
No overhead,
no layers.

When you hire baselines.work, you are hiring me. Not a team of associates learning on your bill, and not a partner who sells the work then disappears.

I work with organisations on complex decisions around capital projects, service planning and performance improvement. My work spans financial and operational modelling, cost and revenue analysis, and the development of fit-for-purpose tools to support business cases and strategic planning.

I focus on translating data into insight that supports strategic decisions. This involves aligning operational data to delivery metrics, strengthening service readiness, and supporting major programs and reforms.

The approach

"The numbers are never the hard part. The hard part is knowing which question to put them to."

Principles.

How the work gets done.

01

Start with the problem, not the method.

Pre-packaged methods are comfortable but often blind. I define the objective first, then select the tools and build the frameworks that provide the clearest path to it.

02

Build tools that fit the question.

Bespoke challenges require bespoke modelling. I build specific financial and operational tools for every engagement, ensuring the output is functional, not just descriptive.

03

Use data to clarify options, not to perform rigour.

Complexity shouldn't be a mask. Data exists to narrow the field of uncertainty so that decisions become obvious, not to create noise.

04

Say what the numbers mean, not just what they are.

Analysis is incomplete without insight. My role is to bridge the gap between a data point and a strategic decision.

The work starts with a clear problem.

If you're working through something complex and want to think it through properly, I'd like to hear about it.
